Positive and Proud

To commemorate World AIDS Day 2018, QueerTT.com in collaboration with the TT Pride Arts Festival, launches ‘Positive & Proud’ – in tribute to Denis (Deni) James and countless other members of the LGBTQIA family who were lost to us because of, or live with HIV/AIDS.
Deni was the Founder and Editor of the MSM publication – FreeForum: No Political Agenda, which was funded in part by UNAIDS and other international bodies. For many years, Deni shone a spotlight on the nuances of the issues faced by LGBTQIA persons in relation to HIV/AIDS and helped them to move past being another ‘positive’ statistic, to being ‘Proud & Positive’ about their lives.
QueerTT,com is ‘Proud & Positive’ about this new resource which will make information and education about HIV/AIDS more accessible to the LGBTQIA community. As we build, partnerships with related CBO’s, NGO’s and other stakeholders will result in tailored and consistent content.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the first World AIDS Day. Thirty years of activism and solidarity under the banner of World AIDS Day. Thirty years of campaigning for universal access to life-saving services to treat and prevent HIV. But after 30 years, AIDS is still not over. We have miles to go. more…

NGOs / CBOs/ Advocacy

Mission
Key focus on grassroots, low-income, working class LGBTQI+Endeavours to:
(a) continually provide preventative information and support on the issues of HIV/AIDS/STI, sexual and mental health;
(b) sensitize and advocate for social equity, justice and recognition of the Constitutional & inalienable Rights of Key Populations; and
(c) create an enabling environment for access to individual care, support and social services.

Today is a good day to acknowledge Alliance for Justice & Diversity’s support for the Add All Three Campaign, which calls for the inclusion of 3 new categories to the Equal Opportunity Amendment to the ‘protected status’ index, in support of the protection of society’s most vulnerable populations. This is aligned with recommendations from the Equal Opportunity Commission of Trinidad and Tobago.
These additions include:
+AGE
+HIV/AIDS STATUS
+SEXUAL ORIENTATION
Stay tuned in the next couple of months to hear more about the +ALL THREE campaign.
PAM is a locally registered NGO aimed at empowering HIV+ patients through successfully crafted initiatives and increased patient involvement in treatment. Our mission is connecting HIV+ patients with shared life experiences, thus providing mentors for patients in treatment and care. We are also an integral part of PLHIV partner services, acting as a two-way conduit of information geared towards increasing the levels of patient centered care whilst providing helpful information for the treatment site individuals who supply it. At PAM, we recognize the power of saying, ‘I am’ to a person retained in treatment and care and the wealth of personal benefits gained by providing them with an opportunity to communicate their fears, doubts, hopes and concerns in a safe environment with trained ‘model’ patients.
